Cover Story: I GET WET

It's raining in New York today so we thought an appropriate album to relflect our soggy clothing would be Andrew WK's "I Get Wet." Success!

FIRST BLOOD:
There is some confusion behind how Andrew got the bloody face: some say WK slammed himself in the face with a cinder block (in fact, AWK has said this in interviews), while other's have heard he used some sort of pig's blood from his local butcher and just administered it to his face. Either way, it's blood and it's pouring down his face.
BLOOD BAN:
Many music retailers found the smashed face of WK far too graphic and opted to cover the lower portion of the cover with a thick black band. Of course, like with anything "too graphic," this only enticed fans to buy the record to see just what was under the blackout. It has actually been rumored that blacking out the portion of the cover was to sell more CDs.
SHOOT THE FACE:
Roe Ethridge, the photographer responsible for this now-iconic image, snapped Andrew's bloody face in 2002. "I really liked [that image] as an art image. It was a really pop image, something that would arrest the attention," says Ethridge. And although the shoot was delayed when WK was signed by a different label, it finally became the cover image and cemented Andrew WK's name into history.
BLEED FOR ME, BABY:
"I Get Wet" has gone on to become WK's best-selling record inspiring fans across the world to Party Hard, Party Til You Puke, Love New York City, Take It Off, Don't Stop Living in the Red, and Get Ready To Die. It also spawned one of the coolest t-shirts that noone's wardrobe is complete without and reminds us all that blood DOES equal rock n' roll.
